Firefighters gather to say final goodbyes to fallen colleague

Erik Hirner served in Berks, Northampton counties

NORTHAMPTON, Pa. - Firefighters from the Reading and North Catasauqua fire departments gathered Monday morning to say their final goodbyes to a fallen comrade.

Erik Hirner died about a week ago after a crash in Maidencreek Township in Berks County. Hirner was a firefighter in Reading for 11 years and volunteered in North Catasauqua, where he started as a teenager.

Hirner graduated from Catasauqua High School and Muhlenberg College.
