Fox Berkshire theater set to undergo expansion, enhancement

Plans are to add 4 movie screens, full kitchen...

WYOMISSING, Pa. - The Fox Berkshire movie theater in Berks County is set to undergo a major expansion and enhancement project, the company's president announced Friday.

Fox Theatres said it will add four new auditoriums, as well as a full kitchen and cocktail bar, to the eight-screen theater complex on Berkshire Boulevard in Wyomissing.

"The expansion of the theater, built in 1994, will increase seating capacity by 60 percent, helping us meet the demands of the local market," said Donald Fox, president of Fox Theatres, adding that most weekend shows are often sold-out.

One of the new auditoriums will feature the theater's second FTX premium large format screen. Fox installed its first wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling screen in Wyomissing in 2015.

"We are in the process of obtaining approvals from the borough of Wyomissing and all necessary agencies and, subject to receiving them, expect to be completed by the spring of 2017," Fox said.

The upscale cocktail bar and full kitchen will be capable of serving more than 2,000 moviegoers each day, according to Fox, who noted that the menu will feature specialty appetizers, gourmet pizza, grilled burgers, healthy sandwiches and wraps and an assortment of desserts.

"Our customers will have the convenience of savoring freshly prepared, high-quality meals as they take in the latest movie on the big screens at ?Fox Berkshire," Fox said.

The 10,000-square-foot expansion of Fox Berkshire has a price tag of $3.5 million, adding to the more than $2.5 million Fox has spent on upgrades since reacquiring control of the theater from Carmike Cinemas in 2012, said Fox, adding that ticket sales in that time have more than tripled.

In addition to the Wyomissing location, the family-owned company, founded in 1957, also operates Fox East 4 in Exeter Township, as well as three theaters in Maryland.
