Francis Acosta announces bid to keep job of Reading City Council president

READING, Pa. - The first Latino to serve as president of Reading City Council is hoping to hold onto his job next year.

Francis Acosta has announced his campaign for election to the president's post. He took over the job last year when Vaughn Spencer stepped down to become mayor.

Acosta, a native of Puerto Rico, has served on council since Jan. 2010. His career in banking subsequently led to his appointment as chairman of the finance committee.

Acosta is also a member of the Berks County Housing Authority's board of directors, the Reading Local Redevelopment Authority, and the Berks Housing Opportunities.

Acosta's wife, Becky, serves on the Reading School Board.
