Golfer preparing to take shot run over by golf cart

BERN TWP., Pa. - A golfer in the middle of her backswing was injured Thursday morning when she was run over by a golf cart.

The accident was reported around 9:15 a.m. on the fourth hole at the Willow Hollow Golf Course, 619 Prison Rd., in Bern Township, Berks County.

Numerous rescue vehicles from as far away as Temple responded to the scene for the initial report of the victim being trapped beneath the golf cart, which rolled down a hill and ran over the woman.

The first responders on the scene discovered the victim, Carolyn Holleran, not to be trapped, but she had suffered multiple injuries, police said. She was carefully moved to a waiting ambulance and transported to a hospital for treatment of three broken ribs and cuts on her head and left leg, police said.

The operator of the cart, who was not injured, told police that she was unable to stop before impact.
