Gov. Mifflin eyes another Berks title, Hamburg eager to turn page

Mustangs, Hawks excited about upcoming season

Mustangs look to continue dominance, Hawks turn page

BERKS COUNTY, Pa. - Governor Mifflin has not lost a Berks Section I football game in three years. In Berks II, Hamburg looks to rebound following a season full of controversy and compete within a tough league.

In Shillington, the Mustangs (7-0, 8-3 in 2013) return a very experienced and talented lineup on both sides of the ball. Jan Johnson is back at quarterback, anchored by a strong backfield led by Wilson Fontanez. Reid Hoff, Evan Pollock, Garrett Henry and Keith Miller are also among the notable returners that will anchor what has to be the preseason favorite in Berks I.

For as much success as Mifflin has had within the league, they would like to start the season better. They've struggled out of the gate the last two seasons, and would love nothing more than to knock off Wilson in Week 1.

In Hamburg, the Hawks (1-5, 5-6 in 2013) turn the page following a season full of controversy both on and off the field.

New head coach Damian Buggy takes the reigns from Joe Sinkovich, who led Hamburg to the District playoffs last year despite the other issues.

The Hawks have improved speed, stamina and strength this season, something they will need plenty of in a crowded Berks II.

Ian Hamilton and Robby Henne are among the notable returners on Hawk Hill for the coming campaign.
