Hamburg, Kutztown post upsets in BCIAA tournament

BERKS COUNTY, Pa. - The Hamburg and Kutztown baseball teams paid no heed to their rankings in the county baseball tournament. Both the Hawks and Cougars are in the semifinals because of it.

At George Field, Joey Cominsky held the Scouts in the check to lift Hamburg over Conrad Weiser, 4-3, on Thursday. The 6th-seeded Hawks ousted Conrad Weiser, the Berks II champion and 3-seed.

At Laureldale, Andrew Gernert was a one-man wrecking crew for Kutztown. He tossed a no hitter and went 3-4 at the plate to lift the 8th-seeded Cougars over the top-seeded Exeter Eagles, 4-0, on Thursday.

Here are the rest of the quarterfinal scores:

(2) Oley Valley def. (7) Twin Valley --- 1-0

(4) Wilson WL def. (5) Governor Mifflin --- 3-1

Monday's semifinals:

(4) Wilson WL vs (8) Kutztown --- 4:00, FirstEnergy Stadium

(2) Oley Valley vs (6) Hamburg --- 7:00, FirstEnergy Stadium
