Hereford Twp. fire ruled arson, suspect arrested

HEREFORD TWP., Pa. - An early morning fire in Hereford Township, Berks County, has been ruled an arson and the suspect has been arrested, according to officials.

Police have arrested the tenant, Richard Younger, 53, in connection with the fire.

However, police say while they do not have a motive, there seems to be some ongoing issues between Younger and the owner.

Fire poured from the inside of the home as firefighters fought to keep it from spreading Friday morning.

Two people were home at the time, the homeowner and Younger, but authorities say they were able to get out uninjured.

The two alarm fire happened around 5:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of Seisholtzville Road.

Investigators say the fire had multiple points of origin, which indicates it was intentionally set. It is unknown if any accelerants were used.

The property is a total loss according to authorities, with a possible $75,000 worth of damage.

Younger is charged with arson, reckless endangerment, and aggravated assault.
