Historic bridge in Berks may be relocated to Alabama

READING, Pa. - A historic bridge in Berks County could be heading south.

A bridge preservation group has expressed interest in relocating Wiley's Bridge from Ontelaunee Township to Alabama.

Berks County and Onteluanee Township officials couldn't agree on a plan to maintain the Whipple truss bridge, which dates back to the 1830s.

The bridge has been closed for more than two years.

The plan to relocate the bridge is in very preliminary stages, officials said.
