Horse injured in Berks barn collapse

Barn collapse

MOHNTON, Pa. - A horse is on the mend following a barn collapse in Mohnton, Berks County.

It happened around 10 p.m. Friday on Hardwood Lane when the roof caved in due to the weight of the snow.

The owner says he cried when he first saw the caved-in roof.

Owner Jim Hawkins recounted the ordeal.

"They (the horses) must have hurt a crack and they took off. That's when the one was hit with a log or one of the beams of something like that. It gouged him pretty bad."

The injured horse, named Ghost, suffered a broken bone in his hip. He is expected to recover.

The owner says he also had an antique car inside from the 1920s. He's not sure if it can be repaired.
