House hit by another tractor trailer

CENTRE TWP., Pa. - A Berks County man says his marriage and career are falling apart all because he can't stop tractor trailers from crashing into his home.

Salvatore DeGenova, in Centre Township, says it's only a matter of time before his home comes crumbling down.

His residence sits on a sharp curve in the 400 block of Bellemans Church Road.

Salvatore says he has been reporting the problem to authorities since 2005, but over the past year his home and vehicles have been damaged by tractor trailers that fail, time and time again, to negotiate the tight curve in front of his home.

"And it just goes on and on and on," said DeGenova. "It's never ending."

DeGenova recently installed a surveillance camera, and on Tuesday night, a tractor trailer was captured crashing into the side of his home.

DeGenova says the stress of it all is overwhelming.

"In the last three weeks, with the last three tractor trailers, it's put a stress on my wife, it's put a stress on myself, it's put a stress on our marriage," DeGenova said. "I can't go to work and I'm all stressed out."

69 News contacted PennDOT and officials say tractor trailers are, indeed, not allowed on this portion of Belleman's Church Road.

They say they will look into the possibility of adding more signs warning tractor trailers to stay away.

"With our without the signs, it is the responsibility of the trucking company to be aware of the rules of the road, as well as the restrictions. And in this case, there is a restriction on this roadway," said Ron Young, PennDOT spokesman.

Officials say tractor trailers traveling along Bellemans Church Road risk being cited by police.

PennDOT officials say truck drivers traveling outside of the National Highway Network onto PA Traffic Routes must seek route approval from PennDOT first.
