Humane Society seeking participants for annual walk

READING, Pa. - A local animal shelter is putting the call out for people to participate in one of its biggest fundraisers of the year.

The Humane Society of Berks County is holding its 40th annual 'Walk for the Animals' and 'Walktoberfest' next Saturday, September 23.

The fundraiser will be held at Jim Dietrich Park in Muhlenberg Township. Everyone is invited to come out to the walk and attend the after-party.

"It's a one-mile scenic walk around the trail at the Schuylkill River, and then we end up back at the soccer field, where we have 'Walktoberfest.' That is where we have this giant tent set up. We have 50 vendors surrounding the area," said Mary Keller, marketing manager, Humane Pennsylvania.

Registration is still open at the Humane Society of Berks County's website.
