Jared Engelman on trial in connection with killing of Deputy Kyle Pagerly

Man on trial in connection with sheriff's deputy's killing

EASTON, Pa. - A trial began Thursday for a man accused of getting a gun to a convicted felon who went on to kill a Berks County sheriff's deputy.

Jared Engelman bought the AK-47 Matthew Connor used to kill Deputy Kyle Pagerly in Albany Township in June 2011, authorities said.

Engelman claims he sold the weapon to Matthew Connor's father, Maurice Connor, who pleaded no contest to a weapons charge on Wednesday.

Connor will be sentenced in May.

A third person, Sandra Keim, is serving three years probation on charges of illegal sale or transfer of firearms.
