Teachers' aide at Hamburg Area HS guilty of sexual assault

READING, Pa. - A former teachers' aide at Hamburg Area High School has been convicted in a case involving sexual intercourse with a student.

Berks County Judge Paul Yatron, in a non-jury trial Thursday, found Jennifer Merklinger guilty of one count of institutional sexual assault.

Merklinger, 41, surrendered to police in January after an investigation revealed she and an 18-year-old student engaged in sexual intercourse several times on or about Dec. 13 through Jan. 1, police said.

Merklinger remains free on bail until her return to court for sentencing on Nov. 24.
