Judge declares mistrial for father of man who killed deputy

READING, Pa. - A judge declared a mistrial Wednesday for the father of a man accused of killing a Berks County sheriff's deputy.

Maurice Connor stands accused of giving guns to his son, Matthew Connor, a convicted felon who then shot and killed Deputy Kyle Pagerly in Albany Township in June 2011. Matthew Connor also died in the exchange of gunfire.

The judge declared the mistrial after learning that five members of the jury knew about Pagerly's death.

A new trial date for Connor has not yet been scheduled.

Two other people, Sandra Keim and Jared Engleman, were also charged in the case.

Keim pleaded guilty to firearms charges and his serving probation; Engleman is awaiting trial on similar charges.
