Jury: Prominent chef guilty in indecent assault case

READING, Pa. - A Berks County jury has found a prominent chef to be guilty in an indecent assault case involving one of his former employees.

The jury on Tuesday convicted John Zuwiala of aggravated indecent assault without consent, indecent assault, indecent exposure, and open lewdness.

As a result, the judge revoked Zuwiala's bail and sent him to Berks County Jail, where he will await sentencing.

Zuwiala, the former owner of a cafe on Penn Avenue in West Reading, was accused of inappropriately touching a then-19-year-old employee while giving her a massage on the second floor of his business in March 2015.

A DNA test by state police of the shirt the employee was wearing that day tested positive for semen, according to court documents.

The employee quit her job the same day; Zuwiala was arrested more than six months later.

Zuwiala was acquitted Tuesday of an indecent assault charge in a separate case.
