Kerkeslager's late goal lifts Lynx past Spartans

Kerkeslager lifts Oley past Wyomissing

OLEY - Oley Valley's Ben Kerkeslager scored with less than six minutes left in the game, giving the Lynx a 1-0 victory over division-rival Wyomissing on Thursday night.

30 seconds prior to scoring the goal, Kerkeslager drilled the post with a rocket from just outside the box.

Call it redemption.

Chad Meier sent in a cross that was deflected by Alex Schlegel into the penalty area. Kerkeslager chased it down, chipped the ball over Wyomissing goalie Liam Fautley and hit the crossbar.

However, Kerkeslager followed the loose ball down and headed it in along the goal line, giving the Lynx the decisive goal.

Fautley made four saves on the night. Oley Valley keeper Ryan Krall made three to record the clean sheet.

Oley Valley (5-1-1, 9-2-1) handed Wyomissing (5-1, 10-2) its first league loss and the two are now separated by a tie atop Berks III with just two weeks of regular season left. The two teams split their two regular season meetings.
