Kutztown University student arrested in child porn case

READING, Pa. - An investigation of child pornography has led to the arrest of a Kutztown University student from New Jersey.

Brendan Geier, 19, of Madison, Morris County, surrendered to detectives with the Berks County district attorney's office in Reading on Wednesday. He was charged with sexual abuse of children related to the dissemination and possession of child pornography, a second-degree felony.

Detectives said they began their investigation of Geier after receiving a complaint from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about child pornography being uploaded through Skype on September 17, 2018.

The investigation identified that the device used to upload the images was associated with Geier, detectives said.

Detectives, along with Kutztown University police officers, served a warrant to search Geier's dorm room inside the university's Lehigh Hall on November 9.

Authorities said they seized a laptop computer and an iPhone, and an examination of those devices yielded a number of digital images of suspected child pornography.

Bail for Geier has not yet been set.
