Local voter turnout lower than 4 years ago

It was a long wait for some voters at the polls Tuesday, but officials said turnout was actually lower than it was four years ago.

Turnout in Berks County was 66 percent. Four years ago it was 70 percent, according to county election officials, who have about 5,000 absentee ballots to count.

Voter turnout in Lehigh County was about 65 percent Tuesday, down from 69 percent in 2008.

Tuesday's turnout in Northampton County was about 62 percent, which is also slightly lower than four years ago.
