READING, Pa. - Dismissal time at one elementary school in Reading left some parents and students on edge.
A virtual sea of police lights flashed at the intersection of Schuylkill Avenue and Lackawanna Street in Reading just after 1:00 p.m., Monday.
They were surrounding a grey Ford Fiesta that matched the description of the vehicle sought in connection with a nearby bank robbery.
At the very same time, on the opposite corner, Glenside Elementary School was in the process of dismissing students.
Justina Walker says her nine-year-old son walked home, right past the action.
"What the heck is this world coming to? Kids shouldn't see things like that. It's becoming worse nowadays. It's sad," said Walker.
Myra Maldonado says her grandson was also frightened on his walk home.
"He didn't see the guns. But he saw like something happen. He was scared. He was nervous," said Maldonado.
Police say the people detained were sought in connection with a bank robbery at VIST Bank in nearby Bern Township that happened on Monday, around 1:00 p.m.
Authorities around the region were notified, and within five minutes, they say the Ford Fiesta was pulled over, and four people were taken into custody.
Police sources tell 69 News the situation was contained quickly.
One of the occupants of the vehicle, Shane Sprenger, 21 of Upper Bern Township, has been charged in connection with the bank robbery.
The other three people in the car were released.
