Man struck, killed on Route 422 in Amity

AMITY TWP, Pa. - A pedestrian accident claimed the life of a man in Berks County early Saturday morning.

Joseph J. McCloskey III died when he was struck shortly before 2:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of 422 in Amity Township, according to the coroner's office.

The driver of the vehicle did stop and was the first person to call 911, according to the coroner's office.

McCloskey, 46, was residing at the nearby Rainbow Motel, which is located in the 300 block of West Benjamin Franklin Highway, also designated as Route 422.

The westbound lanes of 422 were shut down for a few hours as authorities investigated the accident.
