Marine surprises grandfather celebrating 83rd birthday

READING, Pa. - The Reading Fightin Phils have honored and surprised a longtime fan.

The team invited John Newpher to throw out the first pitch before Sunday night's game at FirstEnergy Stadium. It was his 83rd birthday.

As Newpher approached the mound, he got an unexpected birthday gift. His grandson, Corporal David Newpher was on the field.

David is stationed at the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego. He presented his grandfather with the ball for the first pitch.
