Mayor signs memorandum allowing foundation to operate Pagoda

READING, Pa. - After a lengthy fight over finances, a new group has been cleared to take over the operations of a landmark in Reading.

Mayor Vaughn Spencer has signed a deal that will let The Pagoda Foundation fully operate the Pagoda.

City Council approved the idea in December of last year.

The mayor had opposed the move. He said he wanted the Pagoda's finances audited.

The city still owns the Pagoda, but the foundation will work to enhance and preserve the landmark.
