'Mega Blast 2' set to be largest fireworks show in stadium history

READING, Pa. - Less than a week after launching what they billed as the largest fireworks show in the history of FirstEnergy Stadium, the Reading Fightin Phils have already announced plans to outdo themselves.

The team said Wednesday that it will present "Mega Blast 2: The Largest Fireworks Show in Stadium History" after the 5:05 p.m. double-header between the Fightins and the Binghamton Mets on Aug. 16.

Last Thursday, July 24, was a historic night at FirstEnergy Stadium for not only the post-game fireworks show, but also for the crowd. The 9,967 fans who were on hand to see the Fightins defeat the Akron RubberDucks made up the largest crowd in the stadium's 63-year history.

It was also the first regular season home game to be aired on national television. The CBS Sports Network featured it as its Minor League Baseball game of the week.

In addition to Mega Blast 2, the Aug. 16 double-header will feature a between-games concert by the Fightin Phils Mascot Band and performances by the Fightin Phils Dance Team.

Gates will open at 4 p.m.
