Miguel Torres pleads not guilty in 2005 shooting death of estranged wife in downtown Reading

Defense attorney says he may ask judge for out-of-county jury

Torres pleads not guilty in shooting death of estranged wife

READING, Pa. - The man who was once one of America's Most Wanted appeared before a judge in a Berks County courtroom Thursday.

Miguel Torres pleaded not guilty to murder charges in the shooting death of his estranged wife, Barbara Torres, in a downtown Reading parking lot in September 2005.

Torres, formerly of Exeter Township, fled the country and remained at large until his arrest in Italy in March 2013.

Torres' attorney said he's considering asking the judge in the case to assign an out-of-county jury for the trial.

The district attorney agreed not to seek the death penalty in exchange for having Torres extradited to the United States.
