Mifflin bests Wilson, Reading falls in District openers

The (8) Governor Mifflin baseball team defeated rival (9) Wilson WL on Monday, 5-2, in a District III-AAAA first round game on Monday. At George Field, top-seeded Reading fell to (16) Hempfield, 7-3, ending their playoff run sooner than expected.

The Red Knights recorded just 3 hits in the setback.

Reading had just come off its first BCIAA championship since 1993. They finish the season 18-6.

In Shillington, the Mustangs used big middle innings to eliminate their arch-rivals. Jon Gotschall knocked in a pair of runs to pace Mifflin.

Ian Shaffer went 3 for 4 for the Bulldogs, who finish the season 11-11.

Governor Mifflin will play Hempfield in the AAAA quarterfinals Thursday.
