Mustangs handle Saints in boys lacrosse rematch

Governor Mifflin evens up season series with Berks Catholic

Mustangs prevail over Saints in wet weather

SHILLINGTON - The Governor Mifflin boys lacrosse team (6-2, 9-2) used a big first half to propel past Berks Catholic (5-3, 7-3) on Tuesday night in a meeting of Berks contenders. The Saints had won just three days earlier in double overtime when the same two teams met.

The Mustangs built an 8-2 advantage heading into halftime. With the conditions slick, wet and windy, goals were hard to come by and the hole was too big for the Saints to dig out of.

Aric Dupell, Matt Shermot and Darren Schlegel shined for the Mustangs offensively. Keith Miller was sharp in the cage all night, stopping 7 shots.

Shermot and Schlegel tallied 4 goals apiece and Dupell netted 2.

McCale Butto recorded a hat trick for Berks Catholic. Nick Waligurski pocketed 2 of his own.

Governor Mifflin, which moved into sole possession of 2nd-place in the Berks League, hosts Daniel Boone on Thursday. Berks Catholic welcomes Twin Valley on Wednesday.
