New Hampshire tops Reading in series opener

Biddle not sharp in 5-1 loss to New Hampshire

READING, Pa. - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats defeated the Reading Fightin Phils, 5-1, on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.

It was the first game for both teams following the Eastern League All-Star break.

New Hampshire plated two runs in the first inning on a Kevin Nolan single. Reading got one back in the bottom half thanks to a solo home run from Derrick Mitchell.

But Fightin Phils starter Jesse Biddle could not get comfortable all night, allowing a two-run shot to Gabe Jacobo in the fourth that made it 4-1 Fisher Cats.

Biddle went four innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out five. The left-hander will most likely make his next appearance in the MLB Futures Game next week.

These two teams will continue their series Friday night at 7:05.
