New Mother's Tree dedicated on shore of Antietam Lake

LOWER ALSACE TWP., Pa. - A year-long effort to preserve a tree in Berks County that honors all mothers culminated with a special ceremony Friday.

A new weeping white birch tree was dedicated as the Mother's Tree at Antietam Lake Park in Lower Alsace Township.

A pink ribbon was placed on the tree for mothers who are still with us, and a white ribbon for mothers who have passed on.

The initial Mother's Tree was planted in 1923 by a Reading man shortly after his mother passed away.

WEEU Radio led efforts to restore the area.
