New salon helps cancer survivors

Berks Salon gets new look

MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. - A new salon is attracting a new type of clientele in Berks County.

Hope Beauty and Style opened with a party at its Fairgrounds Square Mall location in Muhlenberg Township on Saturday.

Along with the American Cancer Society, owner Annie Aponte welcomed people to her new salon.

The salon attracts cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers, but all are welcome to her business.

"Well, I'm a cancer survivor, stage four," said Aponte. "Even though sometimes people say that we don't have too many people involved in the Reading area, I wanted to make a difference. Even if it's by myself leaving at 3 in the morning and just having help from the American Cancer Society."

Aponte also encouraged people to sign up for the American Cancer Society's annual Relay for Life.
