New sign keeps train station on track to start service

Trains will run between Muhlenberg, Jim Thorpe

MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. - Crews are putting the finishing touches on a new passenger train station in Berks County.

Workers installed a sign Tuesday at the Reading Outer Station on Route 61 at Bellevue Avenue in Muhlenberg Township, where Reading and Northern Railroad trains will soon transport passengers to and from Jim Thorpe, Carbon County.

The $2 million station, built on the site of an old strip mall, will be the home of an old-fashioned steam locomotive, a box car and a caboose.

Service is scheduled to begin Memorial Day; tickets are on sale now.
