BERN TWP., Pa. - A Tulpehocken Area Jr./Sr. High School teacher will stand trial for allegedly having a sexual relationship with one of her students.
Nicole Kurowski waived her right to a preliminary hearing before a district judge in Bern Twp., Berks Co., on Tuesday.
Kurowski, 27, surrendered to authorities Nov. 6 on charges that include intercourse/sexual contact with a student, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children.
Kurowski worked as a physical education teacher and cheerleading coach at Tulpehocken when she engaged in a physical and sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student during the 2012-2013 school year, state police said.
During their investigation, detectives said they recovered thousands of text messages and dozens of pictures, revealing that both Kurowski and the student engaged in daily conversations with each other both during and after school hours. Those exchanges, police said, included repeated "I love you" messages.
A few times, Kurowski and the student engaged in indecent contact during school hours, said police, who added that other encounters occurred at inconspicuous areas around Berks County.
Kurowski remains free on $25,000 unsecured bail. She is also suspended without pay from her job at Tulpehocken, pending the outcome of the criminal case, district official said.
