Northern Berks police tap veteran sergeant to be next chief

Brian Horner will replace retiring Scott Eaken

ONTELANUEE TWP., Pa. - The Northern Berks Regional Police Department is prepared for a changing of the guard.

Detective Sgt. Brian Horner has been offered the job of the department's next police chief, officials said Monday.

Horner has been with the department for 27 years. He'll replace Scott Eaken, who announced last week that he is retiring, effective April 2.

Two other law enforcement veterans were being considered for the job. Those finalists were Fleetwood police Chief Steven Stinsky and retired Pennsylvania State Police Capt. Andy Winger.

Northern Berks provides police coverage to the borough of Leesport and Maidencreek and Ontelaunee townships.
