Fightin Phils erupt in win over Thunder

READING, Pa. - The Reading Fightin Phils (36-52) had a complete effort as Adam Loewen pitched seven strong innings and the offense recorded 12 hits and scored 10 runs to defeat the Trenton Thunder (42-50) 10-1 on Wednesday night.  

Tyler Austin hit a solo home run off Adam Loewen in the top of the 3rd inning to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead.  The Fightin Phils got to Trenton for five runs off Dillon McNamara and reliever Fred Lewis as the Fightins would take a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the 4th inning.  Carlos Alonso scored on a wild pitch which was followed by a RBI double from Jake Fox off McNamara.  KC Serna added a two-run double off reliever Fred Lewis and Albert Cartwright hit a RBI single off Lewis.

The Fightin Phils loaded the bases off reliever Phil Wetherell in the bottom of the 7th inning.  Albert Cartwright and Carlos Alonso hit back-to-back singles and Kelly Dugan followed with a walk.  Jake Fox hit a RBI single off Wetherell to give Reading a 6-1 lead.  

Cesar Cabral entered the game for the Trenton Thunder in the bottom of the 8th inning.  After KC Serna grounded out to begin the inning Raywilly Gomez reached via a single in the next at-bat.  Zach Collier would walk in the following at-bat then Albert Cartwright hit a RBI double to score Raywilly Gomez and give the Fightins a 7-1 lead.  Carlos Alonso hit a RBI single in the next at-bat to score Zach Collier to give Reading an 8-1 lead.  Kelly Dugan reached via a fielder's choice in the next at-bat with Jake Fox walking after him to chase Cabral out of the game.  Aaron Altherr capped off the inning with a two-run double off reliever Manny Barreda to give the Fightin Phils a 10-1 lead.  

Adam Loewen (1-2) pitched seven strong innings as he allowed just one run off six hits with three strikeouts in earning his first win on the season.  Dillon McNamara (0-1) receives his first loss in his Double-A debut as he allows four runs in three innings of work.  Colton Murray tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Loewen.   

The Fightin Phils and Trenton Thunder wrap up their series tomorrow night at FirstEnergy Stadium.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
