Officials warn local veterans about increase in scams

BERN TWP., Pa. - Authorities said they're trying to keep veterans in Berks County from becoming victims.

They said they're seeing more and more scams targeting veterans.

The goal of Monday's seminars is to talk about how some scams are similar.

Officials are also warning veterans not to share personal information online or over the phone.

"While we may not be able to arrest our way out of this problem, it's important to educate veterans and the general public to be very wary," said District Attorney John Adams. "If it looks too good to be true, it's not true."

Another seminar for veterans took place the Ag Center on Welfare Road in Bern Township at 7 p.m. Monday.
