Oktoberfest begins in Berks

READING, Pa. - The wait for the annual Reading Liederkranz Oktoberfest has come to an end.

The popular celebration began in style Thursday evening.

The Continentals performed for the hundreds on hand here in Lower Alsace Township.

This is a local spin on the beer festival of the same name that's held this time of year in Germany.

Of course there's a biergarten here but there's also entertainment for children and good German bratwurst and apfelstrudel (Apple Strudel).

Organizers say this is the oldest and biggest Oktoberfest in the state.

It runs through Sunday.
