Oley boys, Wyo and Tulpehocken girls advance to District semis

Lynx, Spartans and Trojans advance to soccer semis

BERKS COUNTY - The Oley Valley boys, Wyomissing girls and Tulpehocken girls soccer teams advanced to the District III semi-finals on Thursday.

At Don Thomas Stadium, Oley Valley knocked off Fleetwood, 2-1, in an all-Berks game at the AA level.

Fleetwood struck in the first half on a goal from Mitch Kinek. But the Lynx rattled off two unanswered goals.

Ben Kerkeslager tied the game at 1 with Marcus Frangakis burying the game-winner. Both goals came in the second half.

Oley Valley will play Susquehannock in the semi-finals on Monday.

Also in Reiffton, the Wyomissing girls shut down county champion Conrad Weiser, 1-0, earning a berth in the District III-AA semi-finals.

Shea Moyer scored for the Spartans in the second half, and that is all that Wyo would need as their postseason magic continues.

Last season, Wyomissing knocked off then-county champions Fleetwood in Districts en route to the state tournament.

Out in New Schaefferstown, the Tulpehocken girls handled Camp Hill, 3-0, to advance to the Class A semis.

The Trojans got help from a Camp Hill own-goal that made it 1-0 in the first half. But Kendra Benzel and Victoria Stump added insurance in the second half to seal the win for Tulpy.

Tulpehocken will take on York Catholic in the semis, who defeated Kutztown, 5-1.
