Owner of home where Ariel Castro grew up speaks to 69 News

READING, Pa. - The man who lives in Ariel Castro's old home in Reading said he's not happy about his residence being associated with the accused kidnapper.

Family members said Ariel Castro lived in the home in 400 block of North 2nd Street back in the 1970s.

Cristóbal Arroyo's family now lives in the home, and he said his family has never met Castro's family.

"As far as this house is concerned, it's one of the best homes in the world," Castro said. "This is a good community for me. It's a good house."

Arroyo said he never had any problems growing up in the home, and now he owns Arroyo's Pizza & Deli at Greenwich and Thorn streets.

He said it's impossible to tell where things allegedly went wrong with Ariel Castro, but to associate that with the city of Reading is not fair.

"To bring a case from out of state here to this little city, why bring his drama here? He didn't kidnap no one from here. He did it all over there. Reading is a good city. You got to make something of it," Arroyo said.

Castro is facing charges of holding three girls in his Ohio basement for a decade and raping them repeatedly, among other charges.

Arroyo said he will be paying close attention to the outcome of this case.

"My thoughts are, if he's guilty, then he should suffer the consequences," Arroyo said.
