Pancake breakfast, raffle to benefit Laney's family

EXETER TWP., Pa. - Three weeks after thousands of people gathered to sing Christmas carols to Laney Brown, many are planning to unite again in her honor.

The Dairy Queen on Perkiomen Avenue in Exeter Twp., Berks Co., will be serving up an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday.

The cost is just $7 per person, with all proceeds being donated to Laney's family.

Dozens of area businesses, including AfterShock Dance Studio, Scott's Car Wash, Exeter Family Restaurant, Lords & Ladies Salon and the Philadelphia Eagles have also donated items to be raffled off at the breakfast.

"We have followed this amazing little girl and have come to love her and her family," said Kristie Piersol, one of the organizers, on the event's Facebook page. "I, like most, have felt so helpless but not hopeless. Please join us as we rally around this family!"

Laney died Christmas morning after battling a rare form of cancer. She was just 8-years-old.

One of Laney's dying wishes was to have people sing Christmas carols to her. Word quickly spread, not only throughout Berks County, but across the country and around the world.

An estimated 10,000 people made Laney's dream come true when they gathered outside her home in West Reading on Dec. 21. Thousands more shared words of love and inspiration with Laney's family on Facebook and Twitter.
