Parrotheads cut big check for the Children's Home of Reading

SPRING TWP., Pa. - Berks County's biggest Jimmy Buffett fans have banded together for a good cause.

The Berks County Parrot Heads gathered at the Beverly Hills Tavern in Spring Township on Tuesday night to present a check for $32,000 to the Children's Home of Reading.

The group raised the money for the children's home at its annual Summer Parrot Daze party at the Reading Liederkranz on July 19.

Organizers said every event the club holds is aimed at giving back to the community. The idea is simple: "Party with a purpose."

"All the money that the Berks County Parrot Head Club raises stays in Berks County, and that's part of our bylaws and part of our mission here," said Denny Lorah, the club's president.

The Parrot Heads have now raised more than $513,000 for Berks County charities over the past 12 years.
