Pat Garrett takes stand against kneeling players with song

'I'm Gonna Stand' among top-20 country downloads

UPPER TULPEHOCKEN TWP., Pa. - A local country music singer is taking a stand in the controversy surrounding NFL players not standing for the national anthem.

Pat Garrett said he was inspired to write his newest song, "I'm Gonna Stand," when the controversy erupted.

Garrett said people should stand during the national anthem as a sign of respect.

"I guess they have a right to do whatever they please, you know. This is America," Garrett told 69 News. "However, when they play the 'Star Spangled Banner,' I'm gonna stand, and that's what this song is about."

Garrett noted that most NFL players are "great guys."

"I'm Gonna Stand" was released only two weeks ago and it's already reached the top-20 downloads in country music radio. The song can be downloaded on iTunes.
