PennDOT repairs median damaged by fiery crash on I-78

GREENWICH TWP., Pa. - PennDOT has made repairs following last week's fiery crash on Interstate 78 in northern Berks County.

A five-mile stretch of the highway was reduced to one lane while crews replaced a stretch of the concrete median Monday.

It was damaged as a result of the chain-reaction crash involving a tractor trailer and six other vehicles in Greenwich Township, not far from the Lehigh County line, last Monday.

Three people died in the wreck; 12 others were taken to the hospital, but their injuries were not serious, officials said.

Traffic was slowing when the tractor trailer collided with one of the other vehicles, sparking the chain-reaction crash, state police said.
