Penske Truck Leasing orders 100 compressed natural gas trucks

Order will more than double Berks-based company's fleet by end of year

CUMRU TWP., Pa. - Penske Truck Leasing is adding another 100 compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to its fleet.

The Berks County-based company announced Tuesday it has ordered Freightliner Cascadia tractors equipped with Cummins Westport 12-liter engines.

The natural gas tractors will be available for use by Penske's full-service truck leasing and commercial truck rental customers at various locations across the United States.

"Many full-service truck leasing customers continue to evaluate using natural gas vehicles (NGVs) within their truck fleets while others are quickly adopting the use of NGVs to meet their sustainability goals," said Art Vallely, executive vice president of operations for Penske Truck Leasing. "We're encouraged by the interest we are seeing from customers with regard to NGVs and we are fully capable of assisting any fleet with their natural gas powered truck needs."

Before the year's end, Penske Truck Leasing estimates it will have more than 200 natural gas tractors within its fleet for use by its full-service truck leasing customers and commercial truck rental customers.
