Driver injured in crash on Route 422 near Womelsdorf

HEIDELBERG TWP., Pa. - One person was injured in a crash on Route 422 in western Berks County.

The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. Monday at the intersection with East High Street in Heidelberg Township, near the border with Womelsdorf.

A pickup truck was traveling west onto Route 422 when it turned onto East High and into the path of a large truck, police said.

The two vehicles collided, with the large truck going off the road and down an embankment; the heavily-damaged pickup came to rest against a guardrail.

Initial reports from the scene were that the driver of the pickup was unconscious and heavily trapped in the vehicle, but the victim was freed and transported to the hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the other truck was not reported to be injured.

A third vehicle involved in the accident suffered minor fender damage.
