Pilot who inspired 'Black Hawk Down' appears in Berks

WYOMISSING, Pa. - The man whose story inspired the book and movie "Black Hawk Down" was in Berks County on Tuesday to inspire leaders and honor heroes.

Michael Durant will deliver the keynote speech at Tuesday night's Hawk Mountain Council Boy Scouts leadership dinner.

Durant's helicopter was shot down in Somalia in 1993 and he was held prisoner for 11 days.

At the Crowne Plaza in Wyomissing, he'll talk about important attributes of leaders.

"To me, great leaders have integrity. They can be trusted, and people want to work for and support people they know they can trust, and it's one of the most important things great leaders can possess," Durant said.

Two young men at the dinner will be honored for their heroic efforts to save others.
