Polar plunge benefits Restoring Hope Foundation

BERN TWP., Pa. - An important cause got dozens of people in Berks County to take a December dip in Blue Marsh Lake.

They raced into the water at high noon Saturday for a polar plunge to benefit the nonprofit Restoring Hope Foundation.

The plungers raised money by linking up sponsors beforehand.

"People have an impulse to give and to give in a fun way. It's also a lot of fun, until the moment you jump into the water, and then it's a lot of fun afterwards," said participant Jeffrey Bingham.

Money raised from the polar plunge will go to the Restoring Hope Foundation's yearly program of providing a one-week homemaker over to a hard-working family facing tough times.
