Police, coroner probing death of 18-month-old girl

MAIDENCREEK TWP., Pa. - Authorities are investigating the death of a toddler in Berks County.

Police and paramedics were dispatched shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday for the report of a child in distress at a home on Northview Road in Maidencreek Township.

Paramedics performed CPR on the 18-month-old girl before rushing her to Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Bern Township, where she later died, according to police Chief Scott Eaken.

An autopsy on the girl was performed Sunday, but results are pending and no official cause of death has been established, officials said.

The girl's mother posted on Facebook that her daughter was injured when she got her head stuck in a dresser drawer.
