Police: Drunk motorcyclist tops 130 mph during pursuit in Berks, Lancaster counties

A drunk motorcyclist reached speeds in excess of 130 miles per hour during a pursuit through Berks and Lancaster counties, according to state police.

The pursuit began around 3 a.m. Saturday when the motorcyclist took off while police attempted to stop him for a speeding violation on Route 222 South in Spring Township, Berks County.

The motorcyclist -- later identified as 22-year-old John Stanley of Stevens -- topped speeds of 130 miles per hour as the pursuit continued into Lancaster County, police said.

The pursuit suddenly ended when Stanley crashed into a vehicle in East Cocalico Township.

Stanley was taken to Reading Hospital for serious injuries. Police said he was wearing a helmet.

On Sunday afternoon, a Reading Hospital official said Stanley was in "good condition."

Police said Stanley was driving with a suspended license. He is facing numerous charges, including felony fleeing/eluding and DUI.
