READING, Pa. - Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Reading as a 39-year-old city man.

Dennis Serrano was gunned down late Tuesday night in the area of South Ninth and Cherry streets, police said.

Witnesses reported hearing at least seven shots before RPD officers arrived to find Serrano lying in the street.

The scene is adjacent to two Reading Housing Authority high-rise apartment buildings and a block east of a city police substation.

RPD investigators have not yet identified a motive or any suspects in the homicide, which is the city's second this year.

"We do know that the victim was drinking with a bunch of other people on a porch in the block," said Capt. Matthew Schappell, Reading Police Department. "He was walking with the individual that shot him."

Schappell said investigators are unsure of their relationship, but they do know that the victim and his killer were "familiar with each other."

The captain described the shooter as a thin, white man who stands about six feet tall.

"That's all we have, at this point," he said.
