Police seek ID of man in theft of iPhone at Walmart in Muhlenberg

MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. - Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who stole a woman's Apple iPhone 4 at the Walmart store in Muhlenberg Twp., Berks Co.

The theft happened at 4:23 p.m. on Sun., May 26. The customer left her cell phone behind at self-checkout register #50 and found it was missing when she returned for it, police said.

An investigation revealed that the next customers in line were a Hispanic man and woman and a small child in a shopping cart. During their transaction, police said the woman put a purse on top of the cell phone while she scanned her items.

The man with her apparently saw the cell phone when he picked up the purse and put the purse back down on top of the phone, police said. He then picked up the purse, along with the phone, and left the store with the woman and child, police said.

Anyone who can identity the man is asked to call the Muhlenberg Twp. Police Dept. at 610-929-5454 or Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913.
