Police seeking 3 men in 'grandparent scam'

CAERNARVON TWP., Pa. - Police in Berks County said they are seeking three men who stole thousands of dollars from an elderly woman in what they are calling a "grandparent scam."

Caernarvon Township police said the 88-year-old woman got a phone call from someone posing as her grandson who said he was arrested and needed money to get out of jail.

Another person got on the phone and identified himself as a police sergeant. The woman was instructed to send multiple gift cards.

Three men, two of whom were seen on surveillance video, cashed the gift cards at Walmart stores in Virginia and Florida, police said.
